Calcium has been known to be essential for reptiles ever since we started keeping them as pets. In fact, it is an indispensable tool in the maintenance of reptiles. Lack of calcium supply or absorption, as we know, leads to a serious and mostly irreversible condition known as metabolic bone disease. This is where an animal loses calcium content from its bones as the body desperately tries to find stores within its own body.

However, the supply of calcium is only one part of the intricate nutrition web of reptiles. In order for an animal to use calcium, it must have access to the correct nutrients from its food and also from its environment. This means that reptiles, amphibians, and indeed many animals need to have access to a source of ultraviolet light in order for their bodies to obtain vitamin D3.

How to use
